Would an Oral Appliance Stop Your Sleep Apnea?
Posted on 9/21/2020 by Henricksen Family Dental
Would an Oral Appliance Stop Your Sleep Apnea?Sleep apnea can be both frightening and dangerous. People who suffer from this condition frequently find themselves unable to stay awake during the daytime. This can be a mild annoyance when you are sitting at your desk trying to do work; it can be dangerous if you fall asleep while you are driving more operating machinery. With this in mind, you may be looking for a solution to your sleep apnea. One thing you may be considering is an oral appliance.

What is an Oral Appliance, and How Does it Affect Sleep Apnea?

An oral appliance is something that you will wear in your mouth while you sleep. Depending on the type of appliance you use, it can either help to reposition your jaw or hold your tongue in a position that does not interfere with the flow of air.

An oral appliance looks very similar to a mouth guard that an athlete might wear when participating in a contact sport. The appliance will snap into place over your teeth and will help keep your jaw in a position that facilitates the flow of the air into your lungs while you are sleeping.

Is an Oral Appliance for Me?

While many people find that an oral appliance is exactly what they need to help them with their sleep apnea, some people have a hard time adjusting to sleeping with something like that in their mouths. There are other options for dealing with sleep apnea, so if you try an oral appliance and find that it does not work for you, please come see us and we can help you out.

We are here to help you in your fight against sleep apnea. Pick up the phone and give us a call, or send us an e-mail and let us help you start sleeping well again.
